You could be the smiling face and warm welcome that will greet our body in the first 10 minutes on any given Weekend Mass. Did you know that most visitors decide by the first 10 minutes if they will even return; this is an essential role for our body and simply requires availability, friendliness, and a desire to welcome people to our body.

Ushers

Ushers are asked to greet people as they come into the Nave or the church prior to each Mass. This is an important act of welcoming and also makes ushers available to people who might have questions. In the case of holidays where attendance can be extraordinary, ushers may be called upon to help people find seats In the church. Ideally, the usher should not stand in a vestibule or walkway during Mass when seats are available. Ushers take up the collection during the offertory and then secure the collection. At the conclusion of Mass, as people have left the worship area. Ushers can make sure that the pews are in order and books and bulletins returned to their holders.

Greeters

At St. Vincent we have a Information Center that acts as our “living bulletin”. When serving as a able Host you will open up the able 10 minutes before Mass and after Mass. This role will be equipped with information for upcoming events, helping people sign up for Membership or other parish ministries.

Liturgy

A vital part of our Parish is participating with our God as his Body. He calls us with unique gifts and talents. He has called us into the Church for the purpose of being the Body of Christ.

Positions:

  • Holy Communion for Homebound & Hospitalized
  • Altar Servers
  • Lectors
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Sacred Music

There are several musical groups that assist at Mass.

  • Traditional Choir: The traditional choir typically sings at the 9:00 AM Mass on Sundays and uses a more traditional collection of hymns accompanied by the organ. Women and especially men are welcome and invited to participate. Practices are generally Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM.
  • Contemporary Choir: The contemporary choir typically sings at the 11AM Mass on Sundays and uses a more modern selection of music accompanied by guitar and piano. Practices are generally Thursday evenings at 7:00PM.
  • Cantors: Individual cantors are used on occasion, sometimes to lead the responsorial psalm at Mass or to sing for a wedding.
  • Other musicians: If you play an instrument, we would like to hear from you! We have sometimes incorporated other instruments into certain Masses, such as the flute, violin, and trumpet. Other pianists and organists are also needed, especially to fill in when one of other musicians are not available.

If you are interested in singing or playing an instrument in our liturgies, please contact Justin Lindsey at 691-3602, x253 or jlindsey@svdpvikings.com.

Volunteers help families who are grieving the loss of a loved one by assisting with a luncheon for the family. Funeral luncheons take place in the parish hall after a funeral Mass. Some volunteers help by preparing a dish for the luncheon which they drop off. Other volunteers help during the luncheon by setting up and serving the food.

If you are willing to occasionally prepare a dish for a funeral luncheon, please contact Angie Aeschliman at (309) 208-2916.

Inspired by Gospel values and in the tradition of its patron saint, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul leads people to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for many in our community. We strive to not only meet the immediate needs of those we serve, but also seek to collaborate with others to address poverty’s causes.

Our teams visit the needy in their homes to understand each situation. We provide referrals to community resources, pray with the family, and provide financial assistance in paying outstanding bills. We usually take food and household / personal products on each visit.

Our conference, representing both St Jude and St. Vincent de Paul parishes, has over 50 members. To get involved in this wonderful ministry of service, contact Deanne Short at 309-409-8953. short.deanne.m@gmail.com

You can donate to the Society through the “For the Poor in Our Community” envelope included in the monthly envelope package. 80% of this collection is given to the Society by the parish. We also collect household and personal care products look for our insert in the parish bulletin weekly for what we need and place your supply donations in our grey bin in the church lobby.

“…I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me…Truly, I say to you, as you did this to one of the least of my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matt. 25:34-40).

The mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Guild is to provide spiritual, social, educational, and financial support to both the parish and school. We provide these opportunities through retreats, social activities, sponsorship, and fundraising events.

In addition to providing support, the Women’s Guild strives to foster a sense of community among the women of the parish and school. Our goal to create a source of friendship and fellowship for all women. All Guild activities are open, and attending events is an excellent opportunity to meet other women in the parish as well as to learn more about the Guild. Women’s Guild Board meetings are held in the school music room on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 pm.

Fulfilled: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism

Have you ever been unable to explain why Catholics believe what they do? Have you ever wondered why the Old Testament sounds so different from the New Testament? God began building a plan and laying a foundation for the beautiful traditions of the Catholic Faith in the Old Testament. It was fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament. Fulfilled: Uncovering the Biblical Foundations of Catholicism is an apologetic approach to sharing the Catholic Faith using the Old Testament tabernacle as a blueprint for God’s plan.

We begin this study on Thursday, September 20th at 8:45am in the Parish Hall. Sessions are about 1 hour in length and will be offered on Thursday mornings thru October 11th. There is no cost to attend any session.

For more information, email Kevin Moss at mosskj@comcast.net.
