Sacred Music

There are several musical groups that assist at Mass.

  • Traditional Choir: The traditional choir typically sings at the 9:00 am Mass on Sundays and uses a more traditional collection of hymns accompanied by the organ. Women and especially men are welcome and invited to participate. Practices are generally Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
  • Contemporary Choir: The contemporary choir typically sings at the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays and uses a more modern selection of music accompanied by guitar and piano. Practices are generally Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm.
  • Funeral Choir: The funeral choir is composed of persons who are free during the week to sing at morning funerals. There are no practices and the repertoire is selected from a group of commonly selected funeral hymns.
  • Cantors: Individual cantors are used on occasion, sometimes to lead the responsorial psalm at Mass or to sing for a wedding.
  • Other musicians: If you play an instrument, we would like to hear from you! We have sometimes incorporated other instruments into certain Masses, such as the flute, violin, and trumpet. Other pianists and organists are also needed, especially to fill in when one of other musicians are not available.

If you are interested in singing or playing an instrument in our liturgies, please contactJustin Lindsey at 691-3602, x253 or jlindsey@svdpvikings.com.
